It’s time again for a new episode of The WINERAM Experience New Zealand! This time we’re just outside Martinborough in Wairarapa hunting with Glen Ora Hunting Adventures before touring Martinborough Vineyard. After learning about the grape sorting process our presenters, Colin West and Jo Holley, get their hands (and feet!) dirty helping winemaker, Paul Mason, make the next batch of wine. As a reward for all their hard work Colin and Jo get to relax with a pinot noir tasting.
PINOT NOIR! Some are way light, some got a bit more to them…a few can be beefy and old..so much personality, and so many options, i love pinot! Heaps of people even say that making pinot is different than being a normal winemaker. You can influence it that much! Looking at this one it makes me think of days I spent looking over the deep and dark forests of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Experiencing the rich aromas of the forest around the park, then getting back to camp and spreading some sweet and spicy marmalade on toast for some brekky, grabbing the tripod and heading out to do some long exposure photography of the Madison River when its still smooth and soft looking before those sunrise hours!
WINERAM WINE REVEIWS
Hey guys. So I had to think of a way to wet my palate with some wines a bit more, and continue to share my experiences with you. Although in the spirit of being young, fresh and different I decided that I had to keep up tradition, and do something NEW AND EXCITING in my approach to reviewing wines! I was sitting with a few of the new cellar-hands last night in the Barossa Valley and there was 2 Americans, 2 Australians, 1 german, 1 Irish and 1 brazillian. All amazing people with different experiences and different backgrounds with their own reasons for loving wine. After a bit some of us got talking and wine reviews are just a bit TOO DIRECT, being a wino I barely read them and if I do I seriously can’t relate to many of them when there are just too many TECHNICAL DESCRIPTORS :/ . You have to know quite a bit about wine to appreciate the aromas and tastes of some wine reviews you read with words you’ve never heard of used as descriptors! Even though I do love finding specific tasting notes like that, I don’t want to sit there and make you read through them like everyone else does on the web.
One thing were great with at WINERAM. EXPERIENCES. (you know, like The WINERAM Experience? ). So we are doing the WINERAM Wine Reviews from here on out! Everywhere I go in the world to make a film or a documentary or a web series about wine, I will include reviews of some of the top wines around those regions across the world. I will relate each tasting to an EXPERIENCE i have had in my many years of travel. Experiences that might have had wine involved in them, or just an experience that reminds me of this specific wine that I”m drinking which might have something to do with either the characters or maybe experiences related to drinking this bottle. In the end, this is what wine is about…just exactly how wine can help to add to or create experiences for you. Wine should be MEMORABLE. If you can’t relate to the wino’s reviews that talk about gooseberrys and cat piss in Sauvignon Blanc…well then, I hope you can at least relate to these experiences that I (like many other people) have had and some how, and hopefully in tasting these wines I review you can see what kind of experience it reminds you of exactly? Similar? Different? Let me know what you think!
Enjoy and I got many more to come!!

Awesome wine. Fresh. Lively. Fun. Dry! Reminds me of a time being elevated about some of the more grungy hidden backstreets of Melbourne on one of their rooftop bars where we are LIFTED up above some of those pungent smells of the VERY VERY side alleys to get to that FRESH beautiful air again in a place you wouldn’t expect! Wind would always be blowing there with new smells coming through that you wouldn’t expect to keep changing. At the end of your day at the bar, your experience has just peaked to the best, yet just like an older elevator SLOWLY goes down back to the streets, the taste and flavor only slowly dips away after a good long time spent in a place you love…
Episode 3 of The WINERAM Experience is now live! Watch as our presenters head to Marlborough during their last days on New Zealand’s South Island. Here they meet up with John Forrest, of Forrest Winery, and Joshua Scott of Moa Brewery, for some early morning spear fishing followed by microbrew and wine tasting paired with the day’s catch! Colin practices harvesting grapes while Jo learns more about the brewing process at Moa – both leave with a better appreciation of brewing and winemaking’s mix of art and science.
